Our mace is 37 inches long and weights of 4.5 lbs. the shaft is surmounted by an 8-inch-diameter crest atop the head of the mace. The ceremonial mace is carried in processions that begin and end all academic exercises such as inaugurations, installation, and commencement. The selection of mace bearer to act as the marshal of the college is a position of highest honor bestowed upon the senior members of the faculty who are retiring. The most senior trustee or other friends of the college could also carry it at ceremonial functions.

Our mace is carried in an upright position a few steps in front of the president of the college until the speaker’s platform is reached. The mace bearer faces the audience and continues to present the mace until all individual in the academic march have reached their seats. At this point, the mace bearer places the mace on the “standard” where it remains throughout all academic ceremonies. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the mace bearer moves to take up the mace in order to lead the recessional.
